Friday Night Lights 2.02 - Bad Ideas

I'm falling in love with this show more and more. I have said it before and I'll say it again. It's not because of the plot, not because of the lines; it's because of the actors. They never fail to blow me away. It's the way the cast deliver the story; they believe in it, and thus, we believe. Kyle, Connie, Adrianne, Jesse, the four of you deserve an Emmy.

Trust me, I have issues with each and every storyline. It's senseless to separate Eric and Tami. In my opinion, Eric should never have agreed to that, and Tami shouldn't even have had that idea. And Tyra and Landry, I hate their current situation. Murder is not supposed to be romantic. I couldn't care less about Tim/Lyla/Jason, plus Jason has no storyline. He's just busy being boring now. And Julie is just behaving irrationally and selfishly, even by the standards of a 16-year-old. Matt is a wimp for not fighting for her, or for his position on the team.

But perhaps it's the imperfections that make the show perfect. Unpredictable, stupid, irrational, illogical, imperfect, isn't that life?

And because pictures say more than I ever could.

You do have a point about the storylines this season. That's a nice way of looking at it. I enjoyed the second episode more than the first for some reason, I think the storylines are starting to work better. The acting on this show is truly incredible, it never fails to amaze me. Love the screencaps :)

Well, I tend to be optimistic. And yes, I'm loving each episode more and more. This is gonna be a good season. (which, 'cos I'm stupid and confused about all my TV shows renewals, did FNL get a full season pick-up? I remembered something about a 6 scripts order? Is there any further news on that?)

You're definitely right about the awesome acting. Even last year's storylines seemed a bit soapy, but the actors really delivered on it, so people bought it. This year is no different (except I'm definitely finding a few more things I dislike about it then I did last year). Connie Britton, particularly, in the episode blew me away. She was absolutely fabulous!

The storyline is definitely crazier than last season, but the acting just continues to blow me away time and time again. And yes, Connie Britton. Someone give that woman an Emmy, damnit.

See, I know people who've made the decision Tami and Eric did, so I find that completely believable.
And I don't see the murder storyline as being romantic - its more they're desperately trying to understand what's going on and how to get out of it. I didn't see that kiss as romantic at all.
But my God yes, those 4 deserves Emmys, Oscars and freaking Nobel prizes!

When you put it that way, it does sound much better. On a certain, I do understand Eric/Tami's storyline, but I'm still trying to get my head around Landry/Tyra's. The whole thing just feels a little wrong.

Nobel prizes. Hell yeah. I love you for that.

Seriously. I'm glad somebody else is saying it. Connie especially, she was amazing in this episode and looks great in the next one too.

They just keep getting better and better. It's almost freaky.

This show is perfectly imperfect. All of the characters have been perfectly cast and it's a sham that more people aren't in love with this show.

Exactly. Everyone needs to watch it. I'm in the process of converting my best friend. =)

Oh the acting blows me away each and every time. Connie is just.. gah, amazing. And I agree about the imperfections that it makes the show perfect. It just makes it all the more real, and that's the biggest reason why I'm so in love with this show!

It's truly amazing, the acting, Connie, the show. SO MUCH LOVE.

I agree with you about the realness of the show. And I'm not going to get all wanky about the murder storyline anymore than you are - although I don't like it and don't like the fact that a totally unlikely and IMO, unlikable couple will be spawned out of it. But then again - I agree with you that that is kinda the point.

Also like you I'm not very happy with the characters or their decisions or the path they are all on, but oh man is it fun to watch these actors go to town on the overall fucked-up nature of it all.

Sometimes it hurts to watch this show because it pulls you so far in. But it's the good hurt, the 'I know I'm really watching something' hurt. I think honestly the thing I hate the absolute most about the whole Landry/Tyra thing is that so many fans are getting so upset about it like they can't even trust that after what we have seen this shows writers do that it's going to pay off at least in the acting and writing. I have faith even if I don't like it. Good TV isn't always about being comfortable or loving every single thing, sometimes it's that it just is. FNL just is good. I have faith in that.

I love Tim/Tyra, so Landry/Tyra still feels strange and wrong to me, but sometimes, watching them, I just get pulled in. It's crazy. And yes, I agree. I have faith in the writers and the actors too. They pulled off some amazing stuff. No reason to expect them to fail us now.
