It was awful.

No, not the movie, but the entire cinema experience. First, there was some "technical difficulties" and we ended up waiting in the cinema listening to instrumental music for an hour. By then, about half of the people had left in frustration. It was about 9.30pm, people do have work tomorrow, and others have to catch the last train. I guess they couldn't wait, or couldn't care enough. That was bad enough, but when the screen came on, it was obvious they haven't worked out their "technical difficulties" yet. The screen was way too dark. No, it wasn't the movie's itself, I was sure. I had to squint my eyes at some many parts since a lot of scenes in the movie are already very dark. Awful, just awful. And with a half-filled cinema, it just wasn't cool. I could hear my own laughter during so many scenes. It wasn't a good or fun audience at all. This for an opening night. Pfft.

Well, I am still a little disappointed with it. Maybe it was the overall experience that dragged it down, but it felt rushed and choppy. Ron hardly had more than 3 lines in a single scene. Even Luna had more lines than Ron or even Hermione. And some many parts were edited out. No one ever so much as mentioned "Quidditch". And Sirius' death. Well, it was just that. And Draco. My poor neglected Draco. And the epic battle, well, wasn't very epic.

But the good stuff, in totally randomness. HARRY POTTER. Draco Malfoy. Luna Lovegood. Dumbledore's "style". Gawpy. "Put me down." Jealous Ron. Severus Snape. Flashback to the previous generation (way too short though). Harry/Luna (c'mon, I know I'm not the only one who saw it). Fred and George's big farewell present to Hogwarts. Dolores Umbridge (entirely evil).

I think I just need to watch it again, in perfect condition, before I can fully appreciate it. But OMG DEATHLY HALLOWS OUT IN 8 DAYS.

Music:: stars; personal
Mood:: 'disappointed' disappointed

oh, that's too bad about the bad experience. Plus, instrumental music for 1 hour? Ugh. That must've been pretty awful. But yes! Book 7 in one week! I can't wait!

It was pretty bad, but well, I had to hold out for the movie. =P

I saw the Harry/Luna thing too. Especially when Harry, at the end, kept asking if she wanted help to find her stuff, and when she took his hand.

Yeah! That was so cute. I really like Luna. She's perfect. =)

I agree with a lot of your points,my main problem with it was it that I thought it was rushed and choppy.
Snape was fantastic, his best appearance in the films yet,he`s been so neglected in the movies I`m glad he finally got a chance to shine.

Oh yes, Snape was really good. I can't wait to see Alan Rickman in HBP. I can foresee absolute brilliance. =)

Hehe doesn't sound that bad, I'm still willing to go watch it. =)

Oh do. It's not too bad, just focus on all the good parts.

Also, I realize I don't have you friended. Oops! I just did. Do you remember when you friended me?

I think it was awhile ago, can't remember the exact date but somewhere over the last month. BTW I love your layout's CSS it's amazing. I especially like font of the comment box, tags section, and the red that highlights text. It's neat! =)

Thanks! I'm very much attached to this CSS too. Haven't changed my layout in forever. ;)

I totally agree with everything you said.

I didn't really get into the movie when I saw it, despite having a great cinema experience. So I felt like the acting was kind of awkward the whole way through. I've gotta watch it again before I really make a decision though.

But it sucks that your experience was so bad! :(

I can't wait for Deathly Hallows!

Well, focus on the good stuff, just the good stuff; there's quite a few. =)

3 more days to the end. Wow. I can't believe it's so soon now.

I agree with everything you said about the movie. I also loved Fudge's "He's back" at the end; that got our whole theater laughing. But I expected the epic battle at the end to be MUCH more than what it was.

Bummer that you had such a bad experience :( Mine was amazing, mostly because I just moved from a rural town with one theather with a few screens, to a big city with an AMAZING theater with all digital pictures. I mostly had culture shock, I'd never been in a theater with stadium seating before! :)

It's great you had a wonderful experience. I love watching movie with a big bunch of excited movie-goers with a good sense of humor, laughing together at all the right parts. Best thing ever. =)

Awful indeed. I would have walked out and demanded my money back after the first half hour, premiere or not. They didn't even offer coupons after the thing was still messed up?

Or I may be high maintenance. At one theatre (discount too) here, the picture went wonky for a few moments and they offered admission vouchers at the end.

posted by [identity profile] somersaulter.livejournal.com at 08:46am on 18/07/2007
Maybe they did to the people who walked out? I'm not sure. After the movie, it was so late that my friend and I had to run to catch the last train home, so we didn't stick around to complain or to see if they had any compensation stuff. Bah.

Harry/Luna ♥ I had never, ever, ever imagined them as a couple before and then there were those scenes and now I love them to pieces. :]

I know! They're adorable! I'm always fickle-minded about who to ship Harry with, but I think Evanna kinda sealed the deal for me. =P

Need icons.

Daaaaaaamn...why am I feeling to stay miles away from this movie? I have a feeling that I will be terribly disappointed. I've begun to lose interest over the years with the movie franchise of this.
But at least I'll have Luna. That actress should change her name legally to Luna, dammit. Heh. She looks EXACTLY like I thought she would.

Ah well, just focus on the good parts, if not, there's always the book. LAST BOOK IN 3 DAYS OMG.

But yeah, watch the movie just to see Luna in action, if you like. She's cool. =)

I'm seeing it Saturday after work.YAY.

Really? I read a lot of flist reviews and a lot of them really like it, proclaiming it the best HP movie ever.

Late reply, so I assume you've seen the movie? Wasn't too bad, was it?

I just saw the movie on Saturday and I really like it.

Aw that sucks bout your bad movie experience :( I hope it's better next time!

And yeah I didnt like some stuff about it too like some of the changes they made and how Ron was hardly there. And yeah I know I cant believe Luna had more lines than Ron or Hermione! I still liked the movie though. LOL Harry's the best thing in it - he was awesome!

Also I know. I cant believe DH is out that soon!

posted by [identity profile] somersaulter.livejournal.com at 09:22am on 18/07/2007
Hm, haven't seen it the second time yet. But since DH is released here at 7.01am and Borders opens at 5am that day, I was hoping to watch OotP at midnight and then hang around with my friend until 5am. Potter mania all the way! =D 3 MORE DAYS!!

Wow really? 7 am...that is so early!! LOL sounds like youre gonna be getting a lot of sleep ;) It sounds like youre gonna be having a really cool day though! And I know I cant believe theres only 3 days left.

posted by [identity profile] somersaulter.livejournal.com at 05:47am on 19/07/2007
Yeah, well, it's all for HP. Sleep is irrelevant.

By the way, I'm still reading GoF. I'm so screwed. =P

posted by [identity profile] heaven-eyes.livejournal.com at 08:33am on 19/07/2007
Oh wow, you have heaps to go! I suggest marathon reading and lots of coffee lolz and maybe you might get it done in time :P Good luck! ;)

Ive got a 100 pages of OotP to go but I only read from GoF to HBP cos I couldnt find the first 2 HP books :( And my sister was reading OotP before so Im reading HBP and OotP in the wrong order!

I agree wholeheartedly. I really WAS the only one laughing during parts in the movie. It was a tad embarrassing but, then again so was Emma Watson's acting in parts. I was pretty shocked at how well DanRad did, he was the second best part of the movie for once. Umbridge was the only really excellent part. I especially felt diappointed about most of the dialogue, every scene with Sirius and Harry felt dumbed down. They butchered that book.

But for what it was, it wasn't as awful as I was expecting. xD

posted by [identity profile] somersaulter.livejournal.com at 09:27am on 18/07/2007
Oh Umbridge was excellent. And the acting has improved overall, especially, yes, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert too. I actually like movie!Ron for the first time ever, even though he has comparatively less scenes.

Well, my flist went 'OMG AWESOME' over it and I kinda went in with too high an expectation, but I agree, could have been a lot worse.

ick, that sucks. the second time i went to see it the power went out, but only for like ten minutes. so it wasnt that bad.
but i really liked the movie, actually. i thought they didn't shunt ron to the side this movie like they have ever since emma watson hit puberty. (:

posted by [identity profile] somersaulter.livejournal.com at 09:33am on 18/07/2007
To be fair, I think they did a rather good job of shrinking the book down and still make the movie coherent. And yes, I love Ron in this movie, even though I still think there was too little of him. =P

posted by [identity profile] heybritney.livejournal.com at 09:53am on 18/07/2007
i just reread the scene with snape and sirius. i wish there was more of sirius's recklessness. oh well. it kinda misses a major personality trait he had in the books by not including that in the movie. oh well.

posted by [identity profile] somersaulter.livejournal.com at 05:54am on 19/07/2007
I fail, because I'm still re-reading GoF. I really should just skip to HBP now, shouldn't I?

posted by [identity profile] heybritney.livejournal.com at 06:22am on 19/07/2007
ehhh, probably. i'm getting really worried, i need to jump on my HBP re-reading as well. though i'm less screwed, i've got 25 pages of OotP left. (:
but i want to type up my predictions and that might take a while :/

Sirius' death was a complete joke. The veil wasn't even black.

And before he went, couldn't we see a little Sirius vs. Snape action in the Black family house? That was my favorite chapter.

posted by [identity profile] somersaulter.livejournal.com at 09:36am on 18/07/2007
I didn't even feel sad when he fell.

I think the producers went a little nuts with editing out parts of the books. It's good they managed to do it and still have the story told, but it was the shortest movie out of the 5 HP movies made, yet it was the longest book. Kinda ridiculous, if you think about it.

Man, that SUCKS! You should have stormed the box office demanding a refund, or another screening. We got that, you know, for Matrix Revolutions, cos we watched the version with the sound glitch (which was actually really interesting because it made Neo and Agent Smith whisper sweet nothings to each other).

The movie was actually pretty well paced and edited, considering the immense amount of source material they had to work with. THE ANGSTING WAS NOT OVERDONE THANK GOD.

I suggest catching it again, in a better setting.

(Also-- where was this cinema which screwed up your viewing experience?)

I wanted to, but the crazy part of me is kinda desperate to see the movie on that night, plus most of the screenings over the weekend had been fully booked. I wasn't willing to wait the entire weekend to see the movie. =P

I was thinking to re-watching in on Friday midnight, hang around, and then go collect DH at Borders in the morning. POTTER MANIA!

(That would be GV Marina Square.)
