Supernatural 2.17 - Heart
1. "Okay, Sparky! And you know what, after we kill it, we can go to Disneyland!"
2. "Dude, why do you always get to hang with the girls?" "Because I'm older."
3. "Dean, always with the scissors."
4. Dude, can't outsmart Sammy.
5. Awkward!Sam is awesome. *jerks away from the table* "Oh Sammy."
6. Sammy loves soaps. Or at least I think that was what they were watching. Sounds soapy. Is that a real show?
7. Huh. I knew she was the werewolf, but I didn't think the boys would find out so early in the episode.
8. "My head feels great, thanks."
9. "Are you thinking what I think you're thinking?"
10. Of course it's Glenn.
11. "You know, for a stake-out, the car is pretty conspicuous." Heh.
12. "Poker. anyone?"
13. *grins, pumps fist in the air* Oh Dean.
14. HI. Stop talking. Just do it.
15. *insert incoherent squeeing*
16. THAT MAN IS GORGEOUS. GORGEOUS. OMGJARED.
17. OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.
18. "I'm asking you to save me."
19. "Sammy, I got this one. I'd do it."
20. "You don't have to." "Yes, I do."
That music. Sam looking back at Dean, crying and crying and crying. And that lone tear from Dean. And that flinch. That flinch.
And Dean thinking that it would be him one day, having to kill Sam. The foreshadowing. IT JUST HURTS. Sam broke me. And then Dean, you broke me all over again.
I admit it, I find the first part boring. Not enough werewolf action in the entire thing (anyway, what do the werewolves do with the hearts?), but dude, lots of other actions, especially in the later part. And oh, I don't normally notice these kind of things, but Kim Manners rocked the director's chair. The scene with Dean's first encounter with Madison The Werewolf was impressively shot with the shifting camera (very Friday Night Lights). And that sex scene, whoa, the clumsy, rushed intimacy was captured so beautifully.
And Jared, you're the only one who can make me squee and flail and then wail like a baby all within 10 minutes. (And dude, you really have been working out, haven't you, you sly dog.) And Jensen, you can really work that 'lone tear' thing. And that flinch. Oh man. We all know Dean Winchester shouldn't flinch at a gunshot. He's heard plenty, but that flinch, it was so vulnerable, so beautiful. That whole scene, my heart broke a million times. And after re-watching it three or four times, it's still breaking my heart.
Sam killing Madison was sad, so awfully sad, especially since he had such a connection with the girl. And I do like Madison. The build-up of that relationship, given the short time they had, was good. It wasn't rushed (that would be OOC for Sam). It was rather a smooth upwards path, from awkward to comfortable and then finally trust. Nicely done, Sera Gamble.
And Dean fighting to protect Sam's innocence again. In Something Wicked, Dean said if he could help it, he wished Sam didn't know about the supernatural. Now he didn't want Sam to know the feeling of killing a human being (remember in Croatoan how much Sam was against it?), of shooting someone you care about. He didn't want Sam to have to carry that burden. Dean, ever the protective big brother.
The fact that Sam did it, however, was kinda an indication that when the time comes, if the time comes, Dean would have to do it. There is no running away. I guess you can't really compare the Sam/Madison relationship with what the brothers have, but it's equally heart-breaking.
OH SAM. OH DEAN. YOU TWO BROKE ME.
(My review this week is kinda messy. Pardon me. I'm all broken.)
