Yeah, I think it is bigger than the show. I might have a different opinion if it was, say, Supernatural because there's pretty much only two of them, but in a big ensemble like Grey's even my craziest inner fangirl can't find a way to justify it. It's a hurtful word, and I think it's now becoming quite evident that T.R. found it quite hurtful, and if it was that kind of word but for any number of other -ism issues, then people wouldn't be debating it. I don't know, I'm of the opinion that just because we can't necessarily change a homophobic person's opinions doesn't mean we have to let it slide, let them think that's it's ok and we'll turn a blind eye. It's not cool, and it shouldn't be swept under the rug, and the way that the show (in general) is trying to sweep it under the rug sends a really bad message I think.

I don't think Burke leaving is the only way this could be resolved. I think only the people actually working on the show could figure that out. It's entirely possible that if Isiah stepped up and took responsibility and acted like an adult about it, they could move on and forget about it. *shrug* It's hard to tell, really, just from a handful of cast interviews.
